Day 10 Headed to Elba
After a nice cool evening and a good nights sleep, we got up at 7 am to get ready to leave for Elba. We said our goodbyes to Marco, Michela and Martina and told them we would see them in one week. They can have their lives go back to normal for a little while, till we return. We pack up the car and were on the road by 8:10. We headed to the freeway and it was a very nice drive to Piambino where we were going to catch the ferry to Elba. We had no problems finding the Porto or getting on a ferry. I dropped Dan off and he ran in the office to buy our ticket for the trip. There was a ferry leaving in 15 minutes from #8 so we headed to dock 8 and boarded the ferry. The ferries hold 80 cars and 700 passengers. It was really a nice ride to Elba. We brought bread, meat and cheese with us for lunch. We had a snack on the upper deck and it was very nice. Once we got to Elba we followed the signs to our hotel. It took us about 20 minutes to wind our way around the island to our hotel. It is a small room but clean. They have a very large pool. We decided to get some pool time this afternoon and spent about 4 hours at the pool. It was warm, but I kept jumping in the pool to cool off. We both enjoyed just lounging by the pool listening to music, watching people and Dan reading a book. We were hungry and the restaurants do not open up until 7:30 PM so we went to this little minimart and bought some ham and cheese and crackers to munch on until dinner. I’ve just been catching up on my blog and read his book and little and is taking a nap. We will head to dinner soon..We had dinner at the hotel restaurant tonight. They had a buffet with anything Italian that you wanted. There were at least 14 antipasti dishes, there was a pasta station, and two main course stations, salmon with roast potatoes and a cauliflower dish and roasted pork with two dishes. A bread station with Tuscan bread…ummm. We had the salmon and it was very good. There was fresh fruit and a salad station and of course a dessert station. Each room has a reserved table for dinner so we just came in and gave our name and they seated us at our table. I was careful not to eat to much, I just took very small portions. We came back to the hotel and Dan rented their computer for ½ hour for 2 euros. We are going to try and load the blog with the remainder of the time in the morning. We just hung out in our room with me working on the blog and Dan watching Italian TV. Down at the pool they have entertainment going on. First they had kids song and dancing, pretty funny and then they played Disco music for the teens to dance to. Now they are playing more mellow music with a singer singing. It’s close to 11 PM so I imaging they will stop soon. Ciao for now.
